Every KatieBeth performance is like a musical autobiography of KatieBeth the person. Start with her voice, a blend of rock and country. A style that pulls equally from her Wisconsin roots and her Tennessee years. And then listen to her songs. The lyrics tell stories of heartbreak, redemption, and hope. With every verse and chorus KatieBeth unleashes the raw, uncensored emotion of someone who has learned life's lessons the hard way.
But behind her amazing vocal range, and beneath her "take-me-as-I-am attitude," lies an alluring vulnerability. KatieBeth is just as willing to love as she is to kick ass. This contrast—this paradox—is who she is. And because of this, she connects with her audience.
"Breaking From The Shadows is an aptly titled first effort for the Milwaukee-based KatieBeth.
The album opens with the bluesy, swirly, hip swinger “I Will Survive” that’s based on a guitar hook very reminiscent of Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” The album slides along without much fanfare for a bit, but the highlights are definitely in the middle."
Open Letter; To ALL that need it.
I have not spoken about this, I have not commented on it, I have not publicly addressed it, because I have been scared to, I have been afraid of the back lash.
I CAN NO LONG be quiet.
I teach kids, students, people every single day about this very topic.
I CAN NO LONGER stand silent.
THIS IS WHY PEOPLE STAY SILENT.
THIS IS WHY THEY WAIT YEARS, THIS IS WHY IT IS TOO HARD TO COME FORWARD.
I start my presentations with Do we blame a little old lady that gets mugged? Was it her fault? What bout someone that was car jacked? Did they entice the car jacker with their car? Sexual assault/Sexual harassment is the only crime that blames the victim and its SICK.
We CAN NO longer allow the thoughts and actions of doing wrong to anyone to be celebrated/rewarded or left unpunished. This is what is wrong with the world and it Makes me beside myself to think that someone is hurting because of someone else in the first place but then to watch someone be celebrated for abusing said power.
The Misogyny of power is out of control. When we allow it to continue, we give more power to those who believe it is theirs to do with what they will. We need to empower people, and their truths, and their lives so that they never believe they deserve or have to deal with something that makes them uncomfortable, uneasy, hurt, exploited, taken advantage of, made feel inferior, made to feel any way that is not safe. It is NOT part of the necessary to be employed, move up in the world, gain success, keep employment, or the millions of other reasons that this continues to happen all over all different industries.
IT IS NOT A WAY OF LIFE.
I go back to.
Do we blame a little old lady that gets mugged? Was it her fault? We stay silent because the very thread of this world was built by misogynistic, rich, Anglo-Saxon, men that somehow still run too much of the businesses and world today that believe they are entitled, they believe they do no wrong.
We stay silent because the past has taught us to, because we are blamed that we did something, that we wore something, that we acted upon, that we created the environment, because we sought after it, because we used our feministic powers to entice someone, that we deserved it. We stay silent because a background check proved otherwise. HAHAHA> that is the biggest load of crap. There is no evidence/ background information because no one is convicting the number 1 growing crime that has millions of unsolved cases, untested rape kits and people that serve NO time.
Stand with a victim in a cold, sterile hospital room after they have just been assaulted, sit with a teenager in school while they cry and think it was their fault, take one sexual assault call on a crisis line, read a ten page report by a nurse that was sexually harassed by her celebrated gold star superior that is the crown jewel of the board of trustees that sees no fault and keeps his job.
Why would a victim lie?
To get attention?
For what? Money?
When you think about it as a human.
NO one would lie about this, because what happens is you call them a liar; their name is soiled, they lose their job, their reputation, their dignity, their honor.
NO ONE wants to come forward because there is no reward, no justice, no success in telling a story that we hear time and again “ There wasn’t anything on the background report, there wasn’t enough evidence, they are a good person, they would never do this”
We stay silent, hoping the pain; physical, emotional, physiological someday subsides.
We stay silent hoping it will all just go away and we will never have to relive those events, those moments that we lost ourselves forever.
We stay silent because its just easier than being told we made it up, or it was our fault.
IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT.
If a child told you they were molested or hit and they don’t have physical scars, do you tell them they are lying? Do you tell them it is their fault?
NO ONE wants to be abused, hit, yelled at, called names, raped, assaulted, harassed, made fun of, belittled, used for sex, exchange sex for a job, or a house, or a promotion.
IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT.
I BELIEVE YOU.
I AM HERE FOR YOU.
THERE ARE PEOPLE AND PLACES YOU CAN GO.
I AM AN ALLY.
I AM A VICTIM.
I TOO HAVE LIVED EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE STORIES AND EVENTS. It is NOT my fault, I NEVER will be silent for another human, man, women, significant other, boss, colleague, ex, family member, stranger, again.
